Certificate of Competency in Critical Care Medicine

Because emergency physicians treat critically ill patients in various critical care areas of a hospital, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) strongly supports the continuing efforts of the American Board of Emergency Medicine toward providing a Certificate of Special Competency in Critical Care for those board certified in emergency medicine who meet the appropriate requirements.
This policy statement was originally approved by the ACEP Board of Directors April 1984 and was reaffirmed by the ACEP Board of Directors October 1998. Reaffirmed by the ACEP Board of Directors April 2004.
Policy statements and clinical policies are the official policies of the American College of Emergency Physicians and, as such, are not subject to the same peer review process as articles appearing in the journal. Policy statements and clinical policies of ACEP do not necessarily reflect the policies and beliefs of Annals of Emergency Medicine and its editors.
