The “Residents' Perspective” column at Annals of Emergency Medicine has a rich 7-year tradition as a sounding board for those of us in our first years of a career in emergency medicine. It is easy, even as a senior resident, to forget the vagaries of internship, of standing beneath the steepest part of the learning curve, of sacrifice and study and strain on personal life. We hope to serve as a guide through that broad plain of experience with a wide array of columns on everything from surviving the intern year, to fulfilling the research requirement, to preparing the curriculum vitae, whether for fellowship, academic, or private practice. The Annals Editorial Board, in its wisdom, decided 7 years ago to lend an ear to the junior members of the specialty. We are honored to be your representative, and we are always willing to listen to your ideas and insights, your comments, criticisms, or complaints.
