Article Outline

[Ann Emerg Med. 2009;53:401.]

They Say: Take care of your looks
or you'll lose them.
You don't get to keep them.
You have to preserve them.
How sad: Somebody lost them.
(Their looks)

She gives hers away.
Her furtive look.
The longing and the craving,
the panic and the paranoia
(for illicit contents
in a brown paper bag).

She gives hers away.
For the sweet
rushing of the world
at a breakneck pace.
Senseless euphoria
supersedes
everything.

She doesn't get to keep it.
She cannot preserve it.
It is the gift of the needle:
False hope and happiness
into her veins
and stealing (her looks).
